Indies for the weekend

Shadow Racer

title has anything to do with the gameplay or the story of the game. Sometimes it does, other times it doesn't and the title is something that just sounds cool and is chosen to grab your attention. In the case of this game, it is the latter and it has something to do with the story. Considering however that the story didn't make any sense the title just feels arbitrary. Yet, you don't want to play this one for the story, the reason to play this is mainly to be able to drive through some pretty environments, solve vehicular puzzles, and have fun boosting your car through the air with some nitrous. The journey is pretty short but serves as a great starting point for a longer game should the developers ever decide to expand upon it.

The Colossus is coming

This one had me a bit conflicted because there is not much gameplay to speak about, but the atmosphere, sound design, and voice acting are something else. This is yet another title from developer FYRE Games, from which we have covered another title in a previous installement of this feature. The setting for this one is that the player finds themselves in a forest. You are standing in an enclosure sealed off by rocks and filled with various items that keep changing throughout the progression of the game. To progress the player needs to find and play various cassette tapes. A story will unfold as the player listens to these tapes but how they are related to the player is never clear. Still, with the atmosphere, this game presents you just know that something is not right. But before you know it, it's over. Like I said I'm a bit conflicted in the sense that this one maybe leaves a bit too much for interpretation, still though it will make you feel something many games fail to do.
